Hybris – Disordered Cosmos is a modular worker placement game. It has a lore that mixes Greek mythology with steampunk.
The Olympians – Zeus, Hades, Athena and Poseidon – have vanquished the Primordial God Chronos, taking control over his kingdoms and the mortal world. The discovery of a new energy – the Aegis – dripping from his wounds paves the way to new powers and Technologies. As they build their newfound godhood, they conspire to know who is going to be the new ruler. The young gods need to be cautious – lurking in the shadows the other Primordial Gods lie in wait, gritting their wrath upon those foolish Olympians.
Hybris lays out a cohesive experience with its game mechanics, detailed illustrations and the backstory of its lore. Each action and flavor text is strongly entrenched in mythological themes. Chant your own saga as a successful God! Share it with your friends!
Hybris is a deep yet accessible game. It can be appreciated by both beginners and experts, with its asymmetry and simple mechanics that evolve into a rich gameplay. Easy to learn, satisfying to master! A real Eurotrash for Eurogamers and Ameritrash fans!
… And much more to discover during the campaign!
In Hybris – Disordered Cosmos, each player enters the role of an Olympian. Their aim is to become a powerful God, develop advanced technology and show their compassion to the inhabitants of Mythological Greece.
A game is divided into 6 Ages. The players will collectively hunt the Primordial Gods for their life energy, the Aegis. They need to drive away any threat that might upset their objectives.
You God and his subjects will explore this mythical world. Recruit heroes! Gather ressources! Build Technologies! And much more!
These are the actions players are routinely going to do throughout the Ages. Though due to the asymmetry of each God, no new game will be alike.
Each Age is an inning that consists of four distinct phases as described below:
Choose a Divine Pillar. These cards contain strong powers that also grant bonuses to the other players. These activate when you play your God on the board. The number on the cards sets the turn order of the players during the Action Phase.
Secretly assign your Heroes and Prophets with a Location Token. Their location can be on a city in the Mortal World, or on one of the six Mythical Locations. Your God can go anywhere, so no token is necessary. This sets up your plan during the current Age and cannot be changed. Choose wisely!
Send your characters to their appointed location. There’s so much to do to make a name for your God. Develop Technologies! Train in the Coliseum! Face mythical beasts and heroes! Predict the future! You will find more information in the “Visit Mythical Locations” section.
Scrutinize your opponents and predict their next move! Location tokens used during this Age won’t be available at the next Planning Phase. It might help you reconsider your strategy.
Clean up and gather your characters back. An Age ends and a new one starts. As more time passes, a Primordial God may awaken and release its wrath.
Take part in epic battles against the Heroes and creatures of the game, but also against the other players.
Use your personal conflict cards and those from your Coliseum training to accumulate strength, without breaking your determination.
Recruit Mercenaries in the Coliseum, complete famous Quests from mythology in the Moires and steal valuable advantages from your opponents in the Mortal World!
During the Planning Phase, you chose where your characters will go. These are the 7 locations available in Hybris – Disordered Cosmos.
Each location has specific actions that you can perform there. They help you reach your ultimate goal to become the next ruler.
Mortals have developed their civilizations despite the tyranny of the Primordial Gods. This beautiful territory has become the target of the Olympians. To be recognized as legitimate Gods, they plan to govern these lands through their influence and knowledge.
Sparta, Elis, Athens, Lemnos and Argos are the 5 major cities you can visit. Each have their own features and resources. Use your Influence to recruit new Believers or call for the special services of the City. Or, you can deploy a Technology to gain Victory Points, Prayers and the recognition of their people.
The main function of the Underworld is to gather the souls of the dead. While most wicked ones are sent straight into the abyss, the bravest one are sent to Elysium. This is where your Heroes killed in battle go and can be revived.
The Underworld is also used as a jail for the Primordial Gods. They are drained around the clock for their life energy, the Aegis, that the players can collect for their use.
This huge amphitheater is known for the performances of gladiators and the showcase of prizefighters. This is the best place to recruit legendary heroes, or to get new combat skills.
Point of caution: only Heroes or Gods are allowed in the arena.
This celestial domain is where technological ideas are brainstormed. You can obtain a blueprint of any Technology of your choice to be built by Hephaestus.
This is a place for enlightenment. As you listen to the Prayers of mortals, they can enhance your God with various bonuses.
A track that shows the current Age helps you follow the progress of the game. It also points out the scheduled awakening of a Primordial God.
The blueprints brought from Olympus are laid here, right in Hephaestus’ Workshop. The blacksmith god uses his unique talent to forge the Aegis into these Technologies. Once a working prototype is finished, he sends them for mass production in his Factory.
Built in the Workshop, then produced at the Factory. These are the 2 necessary steps before claiming a functioning Technology. Thankfully, there might be other players waiting behind you eager to build their own. Hephaestus will push your Technology forward to accommodate them, and you might get your Technology ahead of schedule, maybe at no cost. Try to guess who plans to go to the Forge.
Deep in the Temple of Apollo, there sits a young woman. She is the Pythia. Inhaling the fumes of Aegis for days and nights, her eyes are clouded by visions from the future.
She can predict who will be the next Primordial God to come and unleash his wrath. Premonition cards she gives allow Gods to develop their board faster.
The Moirae are three entities that handle mysterious wires of Aegis, called the Threads of Destiny. As ancient as the Primordial Gods, living beyond the horizon of time and space, they open the path to any Hero or proud God thirsty for knowledge and fame. The Moirae challenge them with arduous quests and battles that no mere mortal or prophet can handle.
Choose your Olympian carefully! All of them are highly asymmetrical, as each one has a different gameplay. The full potential of your God can be mastered after many games.
